New York Aviation Colleges

There are several aviation colleges in or near the greater New York City and Long Island areas. Some of the courses offered include professional sport, private and commercial pilot training, airport management certification, and degrees in single-engine, multi-engine and instrument ratings and instructions. All courses are strictly outlined and compliant with Federal Aviation Administration regulations.
  1. Academy of Aviation

    • The Academy of Aviation is an FAA-approved flight college in Farmingdale, New York, near Republic Airport on Long Island. The college offers the following degrees: Associate of Science in Aviation; Bachelor of Science in Aviation, and Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership.

      One of the training tools used at the academy is a full-motion flight simulator. Interested parties can use this simulator free and are also eligible for a free one-hour flight lesson with an FAA certified flight instructor.

    Farmingdale State College

    • Farmingdale State College on Long Island offers a professional pilot program which trains students for entry-level commercial and private pilot positions, flight assignments in the United States military and in corporate and business sectors. Students can earn certification in instrument rating, and as a certified flight instructor. Additional options include completing multi-engine land, multi-engine instrument land, multi-engine instructor and airline transport pilot certificates. Degrees include a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science --- Professional Pilot; Bachelor of Science in Aviation Administration; Airport Management and Air Cargo Management.

    Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology

    • Adjacent to LaGuardia Airport in Queens, Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology is a small, accredited degree-granting college. The college offers a flight simulator laboratory, an engineering laboratory and residence hall. This college offers certification, and associate's and bachelor's degrees in ground-based aviation. Degrees and certification are available in aircraft operations, air traffic control, accident investigation, aviation instructions or research, and airframe and power plant certifications. Further flight training can be accomplished by attending an FAA-approved aviation flight school.

    Dowling College

    • The Dowling College School of Aviation in Shirley is located at Brookhaven Airport on Long Island. The college features three Frasca flight simulators and a fleet of Piper aircraft. Dowling also received $5 million from NASA to construct a ground-level simulator of airport systems, roadways, terminals and taxiways, including offices and work centers for airport personnel. Degree programs include research and study in management, flight, mathematics and technology for entry into all areas of the air transport and aerospace industry.
