New York City CUNY Colleges

The City University of New York, or CUNY, is New York City's public college system. By enrollment, CUNY is the third-largest college system in the United States, with an enrollment of more than 480,000 students. While CUNY offers community colleges in every borough and graduate schools in Manhattan, the heart of the CUNY system is the 11 senior colleges throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
  1. Manhattan

    • There are four CUNY senior colleges in Manhattan. City College, located in Harlem, offers undergraduate degrees in architecture, engineering, education and biomedical engineering. Hunter College, located in the Upper East Side, consists of the schools of arts and sciences, education, health professions, nursing and social work. Baruch College, located in Gramercy Park, attracts students from more than 160 countries and is known for the Zicklin School of Business, the largest business school in the United States. The John Jay College of Criminal Justice, located in Midtown, focuses exclusively on issues of social justice and criminal justice.

    Bronx

    • There is one CUNY senior college located in the Bronx. Lehman College, located near the Jerome Park Reservoir, was founded in 1931 as a campus of Hunter College. Lehman College offers degrees in more than 90 undergraduate majors. Lehman College offers the Macaulay Honors College Program, a highly selective program in which students receive a full scholarship, laptop, yearly stipend and a fund for studying abroad or conducting research.

    Queens

    • Queens College, located in the neighborhood of Flushing, offers 140 majors to an enrollment of more than 20,000 students. Queens College is also the home of the Aaron Copland Music School, the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Godwin-Ternbach Museum, which houses artwork from Rembrandt and Picasso. York College, located in Jamaica, offers degrees in community health, education, occupational therapy, physical education, political science, psychology and social work.

    Brooklyn

    • There are three CUNY senior colleges in Brooklyn. Brooklyn College, located in Midwood, is constituted of the College of Liberal Arts, School of General Studies, Division of Graduate Studies and the Conservatory of Music. Brooklyn College also offers a highly selective eight-year degree program in which students can obtain a bachelor's degree and a medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. The New York City College of Technology, located in downtown Brooklyn, offers programs including engineering, construction, architecture and entertainment technology. The Medgar Evers College, located in Bedford-Stuyvesant, offers a variety of degree programs to serve students from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

    Staten Island

    • The College of Staten Island is the largest campus in the CUNY system. Schools located at the College of Staten Island include an astrophysical observatory, the School of Biological Sciences, the School of Chemical Sciences and the Center for the Arts. The College of Staten Island attracts an enrollment of more than 13,000 students from more than 50 countries.
