New York Government Nursing Grants

New York State Government has established several student grant programs to facilitate for the provision of education opportunities to New York residents. Students who desire to serve as a licensed nurse may take advantage of these grants. Because these programs are grants they do not have to be paid back.
  1. Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship Program

    • Subject to available appropriations by the New York State Legislature, the Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship Program (POS) grants nursing students with funding opportunities that range up to $5,000 per year. The funding can be used for the payment of college expenses. To qualify for a POS grant an applicant must be a legal resident of New York State for at least one year prior to the commencement of the academic year. Additionally, the applicant must be enrolled in an approved, degree-grant program in the state of New York. The nursing student applicant's participation in the program must make it possible for the applicant to receive state licensure as a nurse.

This grant is limited to certain occupational pursuits including nursing. The award can not exceed the cost of attending the program. Subject to the necessary amount being appropriated by the legislature, the program can be provided for up to 220 grant recipients. The application for the POS may be accessed from the website of the New York State Regents (see "Resources").
