MBA Scholarships for Minority Students

MBA scholarships for minority students encourage underrepresented segments of the population to enter the world of business and finance. Organizations offering these scholarships have strict guidelines and only want applicants who excel academically. After you earn your financial reward, minority MBA associations continue serving you with annual conferences, membership to professional organization, networking opportunities and online resources. Additional resources help recipients as they enter the business world.
  1. NSHMBA Scholarship Program

    • The National Society of Hispanic MBAs Scholarship Program helps students of Hispanic heritage achieve master’s degrees in business or management at the accredited university of their choice. Students can be full-time or part-time students. In addition, students get to travel to the NSHMBA conference. Full-time student applicants must have at least a 3.0 grade point average bachelor’s or master’s degree or a minimum 2.75 GPA bachelor’s degree combined with two years of work experience. Applicants planning to attain an MBA on a part-time basis must have a 3.0 GPA in their current degree program. Prize money ranges from $2,500 to $10,000.

    NBMBAA Graduate Scholarship Program

    • The National Black MBA Association Scholarship Program awards prize money to the top 25 applicants. The competition consists of writing a two-page essay based on a chosen topic, recent grade point average, resume, transcripts, verbal communication skills, extracurricular activities and community service. Qualified applicants must be enrolled as full-time students in an accredited graduate business program in the United Stated or Canada, agree to participate in public relations activities, agree to become active members of the association’s local chapter and join the NBMBAA Scholarship Advisory Team and Scholarship Alumni Club. The organization awards up to $15,000 per year, and you get VIP access to events at the annual conference and exposition complimentary conference.

    The Toigo Fellowship

    • The Robert Toigo Foundation provides its fellowship to minority students seeking MBA degrees and planning to enter the world of finance. Applicants are nominated by their business school. According to the foundation website, qualified applicants consist of U.S. citizens or permanent residents of African American, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Hispanic, Native American and Alaska Native descents. You must be enrolled in an MBA, JD/MBA, master's of real estate or master's in finance program with a career in finance following graduation. Your packet consists of the online application, a letter of recommendation, GMAT scores, a current resume and your undergraduate transcripts. Upon receiving the $5,000 award, you must attend a one-week orientation.
