Scholarships for Minority Graduate Students

Obtaining an advanced degree requires hard work, discipline and oftentimes, many thousands of dollars. For minority students who plan to pursue degrees at the graduate level, there are numerous scholarship opportunities available. These programs are dedicated to recognizing the academic talent of underrepresented populations and helping minorities to pursue their educational and professional goals.
  1. GEM Fellowship Program

    • The GEM Fellowship Program is open to minority master's-level and doctoral students who are pursuing advanced degrees in engineering and science. The program pays full tuition and fees for selected students as well as a yearly stipend ranging from $10,000 to $14,000. Students also have the opportunity to participate in paid summer internships with GEM member employers.

    Lagrant Foundation Graduate Scholarships

    • The Lagrant Foundation offers scholarships to minority graduate students who are pursuing advanced degrees in fields related to public relations, marketing or advertising. Students must be of African American, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American/Alaskan descent. Applicants must have a minimum 3.2 GPA and submit a personal statement outlining their career goals and why they feels it's important to increase ethnic representation in their chosen field. The amount of the award varies based on funding.

    APSA Minority Fellows Program

    • The American Political Science Association Minority Fellows Program is open to minority students who are planning to enroll in a doctoral program in political science. African Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans are encouraged to apply. The $4,000 fellowship award is granted to minority students who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

    At&T Labs Minority Fellowship Program

    • AT&T sponsors a fellowship program for women and minority students who are pursuing doctoral degrees in computer science and communications-related fields. The program pays all tuition expenses for participating students as well as travel expenses related to the fellowship and a monthly stipend. The 3-year program provides students the opportunity to mentor with AT&T researchers and participate in a summer internship at AT&T Labs.

    Harriett G. Jenkings Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Program

    • The Harriett G. Jenkings Pre-Doctoral Fellowship program is aimed at increasing the number of women and minorities working in the STEM fields--science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Women, minorities and students with disabilities who are in their senior year of undergraduate studies or are in the first 3 years of a graduate program may apply. The program covers tuition costs up to $8,500 annually and provides a stipend ranging from $18,000 for master's-level students to $24,000 or more for doctoral students.
