The Association for Women in Sports Media has awarded thousands of dollars to women pursuing sports media careers at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in addition to placement into a paid internship. In order to apply for the Scholarship Programs, you must be female and a full-time student for the academic year. Students can only win the scholarship once. Those who are chosen by AWSM board members and associated judges from the field will receive $500 before starting their internship and $500 at its conclusion, and they will have the opportunity to intern at a prestigious sport media outlet.
Since the foundation of the scholarship, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists has bestowed almost $2 million dollars in scholarship funds to Hispanic students working towards a career in journalism. Only current members of the NAHJ who attend universities in the United States and Puerto Rico can apply for this scholarship, which awards between $1000 and $5000. Students are judged by their demonstrated interest in the field, scholastic performance, financial need and awareness of the unique difficulties faced by Latino people in the discipline.
The Bodie McDowell Scholarship, sponsored by the Outdoor Writers Association of America, is funded to support both undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in mass communications including broadcasting, film, print and photography. Applicants must plan to work in the outdoor communications field. The scholarships, ranging in value from $1000 to $5000, are awarded based on career goals, relevant portfolio and recommendation letters.
The IFEC Scholarship, funded by the International Foodservice Editorial Council, is awarded to full-time students, both undergraduate and graduate, who have demonstrated interest in future writing or public relations careers in the foodservice industry. Students who hope to work as journalists, public relations professionals, food photographers and communications specialists for the foodservice industry are encouraged to apply. In order to be eligible for the IFEC Scholarship, which awards between $500 and $4000, applicants must show financial need, a record of scholastic achievement and character references.
