Scholarships for Communication & Journalism Students

Communications and journalism degrees are versatile, no matter the job market---there are career options available to graduates from these fields of study, including work in newspapers, magazines, television and new media. And there are scholarship awards available to high school seniors, undergraduates and graduates pursuing studies or careers in journalism and/or communications.
  1. Mel Larson Journalism Scholarship

    • This scholarship is available to college upperclassmen studying (majoring or minoring in) communications or journalism, with preference given to those interested in Christian-related journalism. To be eligible, you must have at least a "B" average. The amount of the award varies from year to year but is generally between $1,000 and $2,500. The Evangelical Press Association sponsors the award.

    Richard G. Zimmerman Journalism Scholarship

    • High school seniors with at least a 3.0 grade point average are eligible for this award, sponsored by the National Press Club. Three work samples, a high school transcript, documentation of college admissions or that you've submitted applications, as well as three recommendations, are among the requirements in the application process. Winners receive a one-time award of $5,000.

    National Association of Black Journalists Scholarships

    • The National Association of Black Journalists offers over $60,000 in scholarships every year to student members of the association and journalism majors, or those who plan to pursue a career in journalism. There are multiple awards available, all varying in amount, from the Visual Task Force Scholarship (up to $1,250) to the NABJ/CNN Scholarship ($25,000).

    New York Women in Communications Foundation Scholarship

    • Permanent residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, and students enrolled in colleges or universities in one of the five boroughs in New York City, are eligible for the award. Awards up to $10,000 are available for high school seniors, college undergraduates and graduate students.
