NASA Hawaii Undergraduate Research Program is open to current students at the University of Hawaii Manoa and Hilo campuses. Applicants must be majoring in a field related to space technology, have at least a 3.0 GPA and also be a junior or senior-level undergraduate student. Women, ethnic minorities and physically challenged people are especially encouraged to apply, according to the "CollegeBoard 2010 Scholarship Handbook." Students must also obtain a faculty mentor at their college campuses. The scholarship award is based on the strength of a two-page research proposal, resume, recommendations and academic record. A budget demonstrating how the funds will be used to further the student's research and educational visions also must be included. Typical awards range from $5,000 to $7,500.

The Financial Women International Scholarship is just one of many such programs administered by the Hawaii Community Foundation. This scholarship is designed for women who demonstrate a career interest in business or have declared a business-related major. The program is not open to incoming college freshman or sophomores and a 3.5 college GPA is required.
Students can attend any two-year or four-year college in the United States. However, those with a "mainland" U.S. address must have relatives living in Hawaii and/or consider Hawaii their permanent home. One scholarship is awarded each year; the amount awarded varies annually.

The K.M. Hatano Scholarship, another program of the Hawaii Community Foundation, is open to graduating high school seniors in the Maui area. The service region also includes Lanai and Molokai counties.
Applications must include an essay, copies of the student's federal financial aid application results and a transcript. Successful scholarship recipients had at least a 2.7 GPA. The scholarship can be used at any accredited U.S. college, but students leaving the state of Hawaii must have relatives remaining on the island. The program offers eight scholarships of varying dollar amounts each year. Judging is based on academic promise, financial need and demonstrated career purpose and depth of character.
