People planning to pursue a healthcare profession through studies at California colleges may wish to apply for state scholarships and student loan repayment programs. Most grants from the Health Professions Education Foundation can be used for community or 4-year colleges. However, many are open only to those who are current California residents planning to help underserved areas of the state. The programs require a 1- to 4-year service term in economically challenged areas. Future nurses, physicians and those aspiring to work in mental healthcare are all eligible for these scholarships.
Tylenol, manufacturer of multiple acetaminophen-based pain relievers and cold remedies, offers scholarships to those planning careers in healthcare. The awards usually range from $5,000 to $10,000. In 2009, Tylenol granted 40 students a total of $250,000 for college expenses. The awards are offered based on academic achievement and leadership qualities.
The Albert W. Dent Graduate Student Scholarship is only available to minority students. The awards are issued by the American College of Healthcare Executives in honor of the organization's first African American fellowship recipient.

The Regents Health Care Scholarship for Medicine and Dentistry. However, each applicant must be studying in or accepted to an accredited program in New York State. Scholarships weren't offered in 2009, but pending legislative funding are expected to be offered in future years. Awards are renewable, but recipients must practice their healthcare profession in the state of New York for 1 year per scholarship awarded.
Those pursuing healthcare education in the Northwest United States may be eligible for the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Career Scholarship Program. The annual project issues up to 129 scholarships of $2,000 to graduating high school seniors. Teacher recommendations are required and considered a major factor in the scholarship judging process.
