The Black Canadian Scholarship Fund is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting community development and leadership through education. Applicants must be Canadian citizens residing in Ottawa who are about to graduate high school.
The student's grade 12 grade point average should be 75 percent or higher in six classes during their final year of school. Applicants must also demonstrate community leadership and financial need.
To apply, students must write a two-page essay explaining why the scholarship is important and how they meet the requirements, as well as a high school transcript, a letter of recommendation, proof of community work, proof of citizenship and a detailed statement of how much money the student expects to receive from other sources during the academic year.

African Canadian Services offers several scholarships for African-Canadian students: Community College/Trade School Award, Post-Secondary Award, Performing Arts Award, University Entrance Scholarship, Teacher Education Scholarship, Science Profession Scholarship and a Short-Term Job Training Grant.
Although students who did not attend high school in Nova Scotia can apply, preference is given to those who did. After receiving the award, students are not required to study in Nova Scotia. They are welcome to study in another province or country.

The Ann Newman Youth Scholarship Fund is provided by the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists. It is a partial scholarship offered to family members of the CBTU Ontario chapter, although any Black youth is able to apply for consideration. Students who are legacies of the CBTU should be graduating from an Ontario high school and already accepted into a college or university.
To apply, students must submit a 500-word essay, proof of community involvement and volunteer work, a transcript, and an explanation of financial need. As of the 2010 academic year, the scholarship is valued at $1,000. Although if two applicants are equally qualified, the sum will be divided between the two.

The Dr. Anderson Abbott Award is a scholarship for Black-Canadian students attending the University of Toronto. As of September 2010, the award was valued at $4,000.
Only undergraduate students are eligible to apply. Any discipline is eligible but preference is given to students in a medical or health science field.

The James Robinson Johnston Graduate Scholarship is a specific financial aid award for graduate students at Dalhousie University. DU is located in Nova Scotia but an African-Canadian citizen or permanent resident from any province may apply.
As of 2010 the master's award was valued at $15,000 while the doctorate program award was valued at $19,000. Any discipline is eligible to apply but students whose focus of study directly benefits the African and Caribbean Canadian community are strongly encouraged to apply.
