Scholarships for East African Students

Paying for college or postgraduate study can be challenging for all students. It's especially difficult for students from East Africa, where many economies are still developing and scholarship funding can be scarce. Fortunately, there are several grants available specifically for students from East Africa. Application processes vary, but such scholarships are available for study in a wide variety of fields.
  1. IUCEA-Robert McNamara Graduate Scholarship in Development Studies

    • The Inter-University Council of East Africa offers three scholarships per year for prospective Ph.D. students to study at a recognized institution of higher learning in East Africa. The scholarships are open to students from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda and are only for candidates who intend to study development. Fields in this category (as defined by the council) include banking, public policy, law, and microfinance.

    Kulika Scholarships

Scholarships are offered for study at the University of Leeds and the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, and through an open application process in which the student selects the school. The fields in which the scholarships are offered vary from year to year based on Kulika's assessment of the areas of greatest need. Applications are available from Kulika's web site or by contacting its office in Kampala, Uganda.
