For students who are interested in a career in mathematics, a college degree can provide the education and skills needed to succeed, but the costs of higher education can often be a serious obstacle. Fortunately for math majors, there are a number of scholarships available that can help make college more affordable.
  1. New York State (NYS) Math & Science Teaching Incentive Scholarships

    • The New York State (NYS) Math & Science Teaching Incentive Scholarship is designed to encourage New York students to pursue careers as secondary school math and science teachers in-state. The program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are attending an accredited New York college or university. The program provides up to $4,995 per year in tuition funding for up to four years for undergraduates and one year for graduate students. In exchange, recipients must agree to teach at the secondary level in-state for a period of five years after graduation.

    Siemens Foundation Competition in Math, Science and Technology

    • The Siemens Foundation Competition in Math, Science and Technology is a scholarship competition designed for graduating high school seniors who demonstrate excellence in mathematics and related fields. Students may compete individually or as part of a team and scholarships are awarded based on the quality of an original research project. Students competing at the regional level may receive scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $6,000. Students who advance to the national level are eligible to receive awards ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.

    GET Ready for Math and Science Conditional Scholarship

    • The GET Ready for Math and Science Conditional Scholarship provides up to four years of education funding to Washington state residents who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in math or a related field at a college or university in-state. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement and meet state family income guidelines. The scholarship is equal to the amount of in-state tuition at the University of Washington and recipients may use the award at any two- or four-year school. Recipients must agree to work in a math-related profession in-state for a period of three years after graduation.

    Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

    • The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship is an academic competition open to undergraduate students who are completing degrees in mathematics, science and engineering. The program is open to rising college juniors and seniors and students must be nominated by a member of their school's faculty to be considered. Selected students will receive up to $7,500 to be used towards tuition, books, fees and room and board and awards are granted for a maximum of two years. Scholarship applications are accepted online only.
