Freshman Nursing Scholarships

Many students interested in health, science and in helping others go on to pursue a degree in nursing at a college or university. Higher education can be both time-consuming and expensive. Fortunately, several scholarships are available for freshmen nursing students to help them pay tuition, cut the time they spend on outside jobs and, in general, support them during that all-important first year of study.
  1. FNSNA Undergraduate Scholarships

    • The Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association awards annual scholarships to undergraduate nursing students. To be eligible, you must be a United States citizen who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate nursing program. Scholarship are from $1,000 to $2,500. The association bases its decisions on the applicant's academic record, financial need and involvement in student nursing associations. The application deadline is in December.     CHANCES Program

    • Children's Healthcare of Atlanta awards scholarships to first-year nursing students through its Commitment to Employment and Study program. Successful applicants receive $5,000 a semester for up to two years. In exchange, they must work as a nurse at Children's Healthcare for one year after graduation. To apply, you must be a U. S. citizen and be enrolled in a nursing program. For more information, visit CHOA's website.

    SGNA RN General Education Scholarship

    • The Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates awards several $2,500 scholarships each year to undergraduate nursing students. To be eligible, you must be enrolled in a full-time nursing program and have a 3.0 or higher GPA. The deadline for applying is July 31. For more information, visit the SGNA website.
