The Nursing Scholarship Program offers a number of scholarships for nursing students willing to commit to a minimum of two years working at a health care facility challenged with a critical shortage of nurses. The scholarship covers tuition, required fees, a monthly stipend of $1,269 and costs for textbooks, clinical supplies and lab expenses. Students must be U.S. citizens, enrolled as a part-time or full-time nursing student, in good financial standing with the federal government and free from prior commitments to nursing service. Eligible nursing students earn awards based on demonstrated financial need.
The American Assembly for Men in Nursing (AAMN) offers scholarships designated specifically for male nurses. For example, the AAMN partnered with Johnson & Johnson to offer a $1,000 scholarship for male students preparing to become a registered nurse or to male registered nurses completing a graduate program. The scholarship, which began in 2004, awards students based on accomplishments in the field. The $500 Jadeh Moore Student Nurse scholarship is an essay contest for male nursing students, with the award going to the best response to a given essay prompt.
There are a number of scholarships created for nursing program students interested in pursuing a career in the military. The Army Nurse Corps Association (ANCA) awards its scholarships to nursing program students working toward a bachelor's degree or graduate degree in nursing or anesthesia. Nursing students must have plans to work within the U.S. Army, have already served in the U.S. Army or have parents who have served within the U.S. Army. Scholarships are for $3,000.
The Dorothy Willits Hallowell Nursing Scholarship goes to nursing program students of the Quaker faith. High school seniors planning to study nursing may apply but must be enrolled a Quaker high school or of the Quaker faith. Students must show proof of a 3.0 grade point average and an acceptance letter to a college or university with a nursing program. The award amount is $1,250 per semester for the first two years and $5,000 per semester for the third and fourth year. These scholarships renew annually if students maintain a B average.
The Colon Furr Memorial Scholarship of $600 is available for students attending a nursing program in North Carolina. Students must submit transcripts, three academic reference letters and obtain an endorsement from a regional American Legion group.
