Nursing & Midwifery Scholarships

Many students decide to pursue nursing in order to secure a career as a midwife. Midwives assist and support women during pregnancy and while they give birth. There are a number of scholarships available to students pursuing a degree in midwifery, from both private and government sources.
  1. ACNM Foundation Scholarships

    • The American College of Nurse-Midwives Foundation offers up to six basic scholarships for students pursuing a career in midwifery. The awards are in the amount of $3000 apiece. Scholarships are awarded based on the criteria of both demonstrated financial need and prior academic achievement. In order to be eligible, a student must have completed one semester of schooling, and must be a member of the ACNM. Interested students should visit the ACNM Foundation website for more details.

The amount of these awards and the rules for eligibility vary by scholarship. The Mardi Perry Scholarship, for instance, is awarded every year to one midwifery student who intends to practice in New England. Another award is the Whistler Student Scholarship, which awards $5000 to a midwifery student who commits to work in the Frontier Nursing Service health care system for two years upon graduation. National Health Service Corps Scholarships

    • Students enrolled in midwifery programs are eligible for National Health Service Corps Scholarships. These federally funded scholarships pay for tuition and associated costs of schooling, and also provide a monthly stipend. In exchange, midwifery students must commit to practicing in an under-served area for between two and four years upon graduating. In selecting awardees, preference is given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds and those who can demonstrate exceptional financial need. Interested midwifery students should visit the NHSC website for more details.
