The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation has awarded more than $2.8 million to students studying chemistry, engineering and other sciences. Students may not apply directly for the Astronaut Scholarship; a faculty member must nominate them. Junior, senior and master's-level students are eligible. Nominees must be U.S. citizens and attend one of the 20 universities cooperating with the foundation.

The Intel Science Talent Search is a science competition that awards a $100,000 scholarship for first place and hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional awards. Students in the United States or its territories and American citizens attending high school abroad are eligible to enter. Scholarship applications must be submitted with a report of no more than 20 pages, covering a research project the student completed as an individual--group or partner projects are not accepted. Finalists of the Intel Science Talent Search have gone on to win Fields Medals, National Medals of Science and even Nobel Prizes.

The American Chemical Society sponsors a scholarship program for African American, Hispanic and Native American students wishing to enter chemistry or a related field. Awards are based on financial need and can be up to $5,000. High school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply. Students must be a United States citizen and carry a 3.0 grade-point average or better. Since it began in 1995, the American Chemical Society Scholars Program has awarded scholarships to more than 1,900 students.
