Math and Science (STEM) Teachers Scholarship, sponsored by J. Spargo and Associates, rewards $2,500 to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing teaching degrees in math, science and information technology and planning to teach in middle school or high school. Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA). Undergraduates must be full-time students at accredited colleges or universities and be sophomores or juniors at the time of their application. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two classes to apply. Application packets should include your online application, a current official transcript, two letters of recommendation from relevant faculty members and a letter from a school principal if you work as a teacher.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ Prospective Secondary Teacher Course Work Scholarship provides financial support to full-time college students studying to become teachers of secondary school math. Eligible applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA. They must be completing their sophomore years of college and scheduling for full-time attendance at four- or five-year universities to qualify. To apply for the $10,000 award, submit a written proposal that provides evidence of academic achievements in college and outlines your commitment to pursuing secondary mathematics education. Money covers tuition, extra fees, course material and other study-related expenses. Recipients receive the award in two phases, with $5,000 for your third year of full-time study and $5,000 for your fourth year of full-time study.

Math for America’s Newton Fellowship Program trains math majors who want to teach high school mathematics in the United States. You receive $90,000 over a five-year period in addition to your teaching salary and a scholarship to help you pay your tuition for Masters of Education programs. The $90,000 can be used to pay off student loans or other expenses. You must commit to teaching high school math for at least five years. To apply for the fellowship, you need a bachelor’s degree with the majority of your coursework in mathematics and must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Your packet includes your online application form, personal statement, resume, transcripts, three letters of recommendation, Math Exam and a final interview.
