Ph.D. students entering humanities and related social science fields may be eligible to apply for a scholarship offered through the American Council of Learned Societies partnered with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Each year 65 students receive scholarships of $25,000 that cover research costs with an additional $5,000 for university fees. To be considered for the ACLS scholarship, students must be entering the final year of writing their dissertations because the scholarship aims to promote a timely completion. In addition, graduate students must attend a university within the United States and be no more than six years into a Ph.D. program.
