Private Scholarships for Seniors

Paying for a college education often sends students and their families toward federal and private loans, as well as the family savings accounts. Fortunately, there are a number of private scholarship options for high school seniors. Many of these options come from private companies that maintain foundations for the sole purpose of granting financial awards and helping communities.
  1. Burger King Scholars

    • The Have It Your Way Foundation, run by Burger King, provides scholarship awards through its Burger King Scholars program. High school seniors from the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada have the opportunity to apply for the $1,000 award. Students must also be employed at least 10 hours a week by Burger King.

The foundation also considers all awarded students for the $5,000 James W. McLamore Outstanding Scholar award. Students must have a least a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and should be able to show financial need when submitting the application. The foundation also prefers students who volunteer within the community.

The program limits the essay to 250 words or one page, which must also be double-spaced.

Eligible students must currently be in their senior year of high school and under the age of 21. The program does not take financial need or academic record into account.
