Christian College Education Scholarships

You may wish to pursue a Christian college education where you can study your religious faith along with an academic major of your choice. Such colleges exist in every state, and most offer their own scholarship programs. Some Christian college scholarships are restricted to specific majors, but other programs offer varied majors that are open to students who demonstrate academic promise as well as financial need.
  1. Huntington University

    • Huntington University, a Christian college in Huntington, Indiana, offers incoming and current undergraduate students a number of scholarship opportunities. Graduating high school seniors who achieved at least a 3.6 GPA, as well as at least a 1250 SAT or 28 ACT score, may receive Presidential Scholarships. These awards pay for $9,000 of the student's Christian college education. Those students who score at least 1320 on the SAT or 31 on the ACT may receive an additional $2,000 in scholarships.

      Other Huntington University scholarships include the HU Honor for returning students with a minimum 3.0 college GPA and the Indiana Academic Honors award. The HU Honor scholarship funds $2,500; the Indiana Academic Honors award offers $250 to those students who received an Indiana Academic Honors Diploma from their in-state high schools.

    Patrick Henry College

    • Students planning to study journalism at Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, Virginia, may be eligible for the Christian college's Samuel Adams Journalism Scholarship. The college awards $10,000 to one student; two additional students receive $5,000 awards each. Students hoping to receive a Samuel Adams Journalism Scholarship should note this on their Patrick Henry College applications. A minimum SAT score of 1250 is required; students who took the ACT must have earned at least a 28. The program also requires an essay, a sample of published or unpublished journalistic writing, a resume and letters of recommendation. Clips of multimedia work can also be submitted, as well as additional writing samples that must have been published in print or online.

    San Diego Christian College

    • San Diego Christian College in El Cajon, California, offers institutional grants and scholarships that can cover up to 50 percent of a student's annual tuition; other forms of aid such as federal Pell Grants, federal student loans, federal work-study programs or outside scholarships must typically be used to cover any remaining educational costs. However, a few students who demonstrate financial need as well as academic achievement may be awarded full tuition with the Dr. Henry Morris Leadership Scholarship. This program, which also issues lesser awards starting at $1,000, is designed for students who wish to become leaders in the religious community.

      Incoming freshmen who attained at least a 3.0 GPA in high school may be awarded other scholarships starting at $1,000. Students with a 3.75 to 4.0 high school GPA could receive as much as $4,000 under this general scholarship program. Additional awards may be offered for excellent SAT or ACT scores; the minimum scores required are 980 on the SAT, or 21 on the ACT. Scholarships related to college admissions test achievement usually range from $500 to $2,000.
