Scholarships for Christian College Students

Many foundations, associations, companies and universities provide scholarship opportunities to students of all ages, but these aren't the only entities that offer educational monetary awards. Religious associations are often a great resource for financial aid. Christian faith-based groups and associations make a number of scholarship options available to Christian students.
  1. Christian Scholarship Foundation

    • The Christian Scholarship Foundation provides awards to graduate students who plan to complete a doctorate degree in theology at a seminary, college or university. All doctoral candidates must complete at least one year of studies to be eligible. The award, which began in 2003, offers between $2,000 and $10,000, and the foundation only awards three to five students each year. Former award winners are eligible to apply a second time. Students of theology on a teaching track are preferred.

    United Church of Christ

    • The United Church of Christ provides members and their children with college scholarship opportunities. The church states that all applicants must be under the age of 25, and entering their sophomore, junior or senior years. Therefore, graduating high school students are not eligible. Students must earn at least a 3.0 grade point average, although students entering their sophomore year may have a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average to apply. The award, which ranges from $500 to $1,000, does not automatically renew, but students may reapply twice. Applicants must submit financial records, two letters of recommendation, and a personal statement. Students must also enroll at a four-year college or university to be qualified.

    Christian Missionary Scholarships

    • Missionaries or the children of missionaries receive scholarship opportunities from the Christian Missionary Scholarship Foundation. The missionary work must be done outside of the United States, and applicants must demonstrate the financial burden of the work. The foundation requires that students enroll at either Calvin College, Hope College, Wheaton College, Kuyper College, Dordt College or Trinity Christian College. Applicants must also earn enough to cover at least 50 percent of their university room and board expenses, and they must maintain an excellent academic record. The award amount varies depending on financial needs and tuition expenses, and it's available during all four years of undergraduate studies.
