The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) offers a scholarship for undergraduate students majoring in engineering, mathematics, technology or science-related disciplines. The scholarship covers two years of undergraduate study and is directed at junior- and senior-year students. Students must attend a minority-serving institution, such as a Historically Black College and Indian Tribally Controlled College. Awarded through the NOAA's Educational Partnership Program (EPP), EPP scholarship winners participate in two summer internship programs at an NOAA host facility and must maintain a 3.0 grade-point average throughout their appointment.
Sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, the 1890 National Scholars Program awards scholarships to bachelor degree students attending one of the 17 Historically Black Land-Grant colleges. The list of approved colleges also includes Tuskegee University. Students apply between their high school senior and junior years of college. Applicants must also major in agriculture or a similar major to qualify. In addition to providing a laptop and employment, the scholarship covers tuition, room and board, lab fees and the cost of textbooks. Following graduating, scholars must be employed at least one year with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for each year they have received the award.
The Indian Health Services (IHS) department offers three scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students of American Indian and Alaskan Native ancestry. The Health Preparatory Scholarship Program provides funding for students taking preparatory or required courses for schools offering pharmacy or nursing degrees. Scholarships provide funding for up to 10 months of study. The Health Professions Pre-Graduate Scholarship Program is offered to students enrolled in a bachelor degree program for dentistry, medicine and other medical practitioner majors. In addition, the IHS offers the Health Professions Scholarship Program. Only students who are members of federally recognized tribes are eligible to apply. This award provides financial aid for up to 12 months of study and is given to graduate students, college seniors and juniors studying majors related to the health profession. All three IHS scholarships are eligible for renewal.
