Aspiring minority law students may find it difficult to pay for law school. There are numerous scholarships available to minority law students to encourage them to pursue their professional and educational goals. Scholarship programs design their scholarships for minority students to reduce financial stress and encourage them to diversify the legal profession.
  1. Fredrikson and Byron Minority Scholarship

    • The law firm of Fredrikson and Byron offers an annual $10,000 scholarship to first-year minority law students. All minority law students may apply for the scholarship, but the law firm prefers minority law students who plan to enter private practice after graduation in Minnesota and other areas in the Midwest.

    Milbank Diversity Scholars Program

    • The Milbank Diversity Scholars Program offers $50,000 scholarships and paid summer internships to minority law students. Winners receive the first $25,000 in their junior year in law school and the remaining $25,000 after acceptance of an employment position at the Milbank law firm in New York, New York.

    Sidney B. Williams Jr. Scholarship Program

    • The Sidney B. Williams Jr. Scholarship Program awards $10,000 scholarships to minority students planning to pursue careers in intellectual property law. Applicants must be a member of an under-represented minority group and attending a law school accredited by the American Bar Association full-time. Scholarship recipients must become American Intellectual Property Law Association members and maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

    Richard D. Hailey Law Student Scholarship

    • The Richard D. Hailey Law Student Scholarship is awarded to Hispanic, Biracial, Asian-American, Native American and African-American law students. Applicants must be American Association for Justice members and have an interest in public advocacy, submit a resume, write a 500-word essay and up to three recommendations from teachers, advisers, trial lawyers or AAJ members to receive the $1,000 award.

    • The American Bar Association Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund offers up to $5,000 scholarships to minority law students. Applicants must possess a 2.5 grade point average and be first-year law school students.
