Minority Scholarships for Culinary Schools

Following your dream of being in the culinary industry can be fun and exciting, but it can also be expensive. There are plenty of scholarships available for minorities who are ready to pursue their goals of completing a culinary degree. From Coca-Cola scholarships to scholarships available through your school, funding is available to complete your education and begin a new career.
  1. Coca-Cola Scholarship

    • Coca-Cola offers a scholarship program that gives over $3 million annually to students entering a four-year program and another $400,00 to students entering a two-year program. The program has given more than 1,000 students funding for their education in more than 400 campuses in the United States. Additionally, there is a program that is specific to minority students that has awarded more than $19 million in scholarships to support those who are the first to attend college in their family. The scholarship can be used on tuition, books or supplies.

To apply for either Coca-Cola scholarship, you must contact the school you are planning to attend to begin the application process. You can get information at the school's financial aid office.

    James Beard Award

    • The James Beard Award gives one student at freshman level $5,000 towards their culinary education. The scholarship is awarded based on merit and scholarship during high school. The James Beard foundation pledges to "celebrate, preserve and nurture America's culinary heritage and diversity." To apply for this award, entering freshmen must meet the May 15 deadline. The scholarship is applied directly to tuition.

    School-by-school basis

    • Many culinary scholarships are available through your school. Check with your school's financial aid office to see if you are eligible for scholarships funded by the school. Many schools offer these scholarships when you receive your financial aid award package before you begin the program. Be sure to take advantage of all of your school's scholarships; they are easiest to get because of less competition per scholarship.
