Scholarships for Video Game Schools

Students aiming to enter the video game and animation industries have tremendous earning potential. Growth in console and hand-held platforms creates a lot of uncovered opportunities, according to "Business Week" magazine.   1. Game Developers Conference Scholarship

    • Full-time university student members of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) are eligible to apply for the Game Developers Conference Scholarship. The developers will judge applicants on the following criteria: academic pursuits, dedication, communication, perseverance and personality. Winners of the award receive a main pass to the organization's annual conference, an industry mentor, and a nearby studio visit. Applications are due in the middle of January each year.

    EA Game Design Scholarship

    • Vancouver Film School offers a $25,000 game design scholarship to incoming students. The scholarship is sponsored by Electronic Arts (EA), the world's leading interactive game design company. Each year between January to April, applicants are required to submit a personal portfolio of video game proposals to display their talents. Graduates of the year-long design program are employed at top gaming firms in Canada, according to the website MCV.

    Karrlin Field Memorial Scholarship

    • The University of Advancing Technology in Arizona offers one $1,000 scholarship each semester (twice per year) to provide financial support to deserving students majoring in game development and design. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and an unpublished essay of at least 500 words. Submission requirements include a list of activities and a completed entry form.
