Scholarships for Government Engineering

Scholarships for government engineering are available from a number of sources throughout the world. Certain scholarships were created specifically to deepen the field of engineers capable of performing essential governmental tasks, such as the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship, designed to develop military engineers for the United States government. Other scholarships exist to develop top engineers from developing nations who will improve infrastructure in their respective nations, potentially by working for the government.
  1. National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Scholarship

    • The United States government provides scholarship funding for engineering students with ambitions for a career in government engineering under the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship. Fields of engineering study covered by the fellowship include aeronautical engineering, astronautical engineering, chemical engineering, computer science and computational engineering, electrical engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering and ocean engineering. The scholarship covers tuition, mandatory fees and medical expenses up to $1,000 per year for three years, and provides a monthly stipend.

    Shared Scholarship Scheme

    • As provided by the British Department of International Development, the Shared Scholarship Scheme is available to citizens of developing British Commonwealth nations throughout the world. The scholarship program was designed to provide educational funds for graduate students in fields--such as engineering--that will be of benefit to the student's home nation. The scholarship scheme stipulates that, upon graduation, students must return to their respective countries and work to improve infrastructure and facilities by working for governmental or non-governmental, public-interest agencies.

    Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarship

    • The Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarship is one of the many scholarships available at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Madras, India. The government-run school trains engineers of all stripes, including those with intention to work for the Indian government. The Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarship is available to students with outstanding academic records whose parents make 200,000 rupees--approximately $4,300--or less per year. Other scholarships for future government engineers attending IIT Madras include the Institute Free Scholarship, Girish Ready Scholarship and Indian Women's Association at Bonn Scholarship.
