Scholarships for Nuclear Engineering

High school or college students interested in science and science-related jobs pursue a four-year graduate or postgraduate degree in nuclear engineering. Because attending college can be expensive, scholarships exist to help nuclear engineering students pay for school and to encourage prospective students to choose the nuclear-engineering field.
  1. Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society Graduate Scholarship Award

    • The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) offers the Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society graduate scholarship each year to four recipients, who receive $500 apiece. Applicants must be graduate students and must be studying either nuclear or plasma sciences. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of evidence of scholarship, including both academic record and publications, as well as participation in IEEE activities. The annual deadline is January 31.

    Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program

    • The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program awards 300 scholarships per year to eligible undergraduate students studying mathematics, the natural sciences or engineering. The scholarship pays up to $7,500 per year to college sophomores and juniors to cover the cost of tuition, books, room and board and other fees. More information and applications can be found at the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program website.

    ANS Incoming Freshman Scholarship

    • The American Nuclear Society (ANS) incoming freshman scholarships are awarded annually to graduating high school seniors who intend to pursue a degree in nuclear engineering and are enrolled fulltime in a college program. ANS awards up to $1,000 to each recipient. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of high school academic record and the quality of a 500-word essay. The deadline for application is April 1. More information can be found at the ANS website.
