The KPMG Foundation's Minority Accounting Doctoral Scholarship requires doctoral candidates be of either Hispanic-American, African-American or Native American decent to receive the award. The renewable scholarship awards $10,000 to doctoral candidates and in 2009 awarded 11 scholarships. The foundation stresses these funds are not to replace available financial opportunities provided by the university such as research assistantship stipends, teaching assistantship stipends or tuition waivers. With the application, students must submit a letter of intent, academic transcripts from both undergraduate and graduate institutions, a professional resume and proof of acceptance into the doctoral program.

The Laurels Fund Scholarship offered by the Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting goes to female doctoral accounting candidates who have already completed exam work in their program. The scholarship awards $5,000 to each student who shows financial need, a history of volunteer service and academic excellence. The foundation requires a curriculum vitae (or professional resume), current academic transcript, proof of enrollment, a personal statement and two letters of recommendation, one detailing character and the other covering the student's academic history. Students also must submit copies of published articles and abstract as well as any case studies they have developed or written.

Students applying for the Accounting Doctoral Scholars Program offered through AICPA Foundation must send in with their application their academic transcripts, an essay, three recommendation letters and their GMAT test scores. However, students must retake the GMAT if they initially took the test more than five years prior to applying for the award. This award gives $30,000 to the winners as a stipend for full-time study, and students may renew the award for up to four years. The finalists must attend a fall conference to be considered for the award.
