PhD Scholarships for Native American Students

Pursuing a Ph.D. can be not only academically demanding, but also financially demanding. Focus should be placed on studies rather than agonizing over rising tuition fees. A number of large scholarship funds for doctoral programs exist to benefit Native Americans and other members of specific ethnic groups across the United States. Receiving a fellowship can assist students toward achieving their education, further integrating minority groups into the professional workforce.
  1. The KPMG Foundation Minority Accounting Doctoral Scholarship

    • KPMG Foundation Minority Accounting Doctoral Scholarships aim to further increase the completion rate among Native Americans and other minority doctoral students. The foundation awards scholarships of $10,000 to 12 minority accounting doctoral students per year. Each scholarship is eligible for annual renewal. Applicants must be Native American, African-American or Hispanic-American, a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the U.S. and must be enrolled in an accounting business doctoral program by the annual application deadline.

    APSA Minority Fellows Program

    • The APSA Minority Fellows program is designed primarily for minority students applying to enter a doctoral program in political science. The APSA grants $4,000 to 12 minority fellows each year. Awards are based on the course work of a student's undergraduate or graduate degree, as well as a personal statement of interest, resume, extracurricular activities, GRE scores, and both personal and faculty recommendations. Applicants must be Native Americans (federal- and state-recognized tribes), African-Americans, Asian-Pacific Americans or Latinos. They must also be college/university seniors or graduates, a citizen of the United States and must demonstrate an interest in teaching and potential for research in political science.
