Scholarships for Doctor of Nursing Practice

A variety of scholarships are available to nursing students who are pursuing a doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree. These funds are available from a number of sources, including professional nursing associations and nationwide organizations dedicated to fighting disease. Scholarships for DNP students are sometimes limited to nursing students pursuing a career in a specialized area.
  1. NEF Scholarships

    • Nurses Educational Funds, Inc. offers scholarship assistance to students pursuing a doctor of nursing practice degree. NEF scholarships are awarded in varying amounts according to an applicant's specific needs and circumstances. To be eligible for an NEF Scholarship, a student must be a registered nurse, a member of a professional nurses association, enrolled in a doctoral nursing program, and a United States citizen or have officially declared an intention to become a United States citizen. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible to apply. The annual application deadline is March 1. NEF collects a nonrefundable $20 fee to process an application.

    March of Dimes Graduate Scholarships

    • The March of Dimes provides scholarship support to nursing students who are pursuing a DNP with a concentration in maternal-child nursing. March of Dimes Graduate Scholarships are awarded annually in the amount of $5,000. To be eligible, a student must be a registered nurse who is currently enrolled in a doctoral nursing program and is a member of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, the American College of Nurse-Midwives or the National Association of Neonatal Nurses. The annual application deadline is January 15.

    Doctoral Degree Scholarships in Cancer Nursing

    • The American Cancer Society provides scholarship assistance to students pursuing a DNP in nursing through its Doctoral Degree Scholarships in Cancer Nursing. This scholarship is initially awarded for a period of two years, and provides an annual stipend of $15,000. The scholarship can potentially be renewed for an additional two years. To be eligible, a student must be a citizen of the United States, and must be conducting cancer research. Students and individuals conducting cancer research for tobacco companies are ineligible for this award. The annual deadline for application is October 15.
