The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Nursing Scholarship Program provides education funding to qualified students in exchange for a service commitment. To be considered, you must be enrolled in an accredited nursing school; students at both undergraduate and graduate levels may apply. The scholarship covers full tuition and fees, and provides recipients with a monthly stipend of approximately $1,300 for the duration of the academic year. In return, students must agree to a two year period of employment at an underserved health care facility.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing administers several scholarship programs for both undergraduate and graduate nursing students. The Hurst Review/AACN Nursing Scholarship is a $2,500 award that is presented to outstanding students who are enrolled in prelicensure nursing programs. The Minority Nurse Faculty Scholarship provides scholarships of $18,000 to selected minority nursing students enrolled at the doctoral level. The AfterCollege/AACN Scholarship is a $2,500 award that is available to nursing students enrolled in masters or doctoral level programs.

The BrainTrack Nursing Scholarship is a $1,000 award that is granted to students who are enrolled in at least their second semester of an accredited nursing program. The scholarship is granted solely on the basis of responses to a series of essay questions related to issues in nursing. Applications are accepted online only through the BrainTrack website.

The March of Dimes sponsors a nursing scholarship for graduate students who plan to pursue careers in maternal/child nursing. To apply, you must be a registered nurse who is enrolled in a masters or doctoral level nursing degree program with at least one academic year remaining. Applicants must also be a member of a professional perinatal nursing organization. The $5,000 scholarship awards are non-renewable.

The Emergency Nurses Association Foundation sponsors scholarship awards for licensed nurses who are interested in a career in emergency nursing. To be considered, you must be a member of the ENA for at least twelve months prior to applying, be enrolled in an accredited nursing degree program and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The number and amount of scholarships granted annually varies and previous scholarship recipients may not reapply in the same category.
