GED Ohio Programs

GED, or General Educational Development, programs offer individuals who didn't graduate from high school a chance to obtain a diploma. Ohio has many programs that offer practice tests, study courses and financial assistance to pay for the final GED test. Individuals who pass the GED practice test are given a discount for the testing fee. Through the Ohio Department of Education, each county in the state offers a GED testing center and educational resources.
  1. Online Programs

    • Ohio offers several online programs for residents that feature GED study materials. The Ohio Literacy Network and Ohio Community Computing Network offer a series of online video lessons that review each test subject. You can also purchase practice workbooks and materials in addition to the online lessons. Only Ohio residents may access these online materials.

    ABLE GED Programs

    • Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) programs are funded by the state of Ohio, Ohio Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education. Each of Ohio's 88 counties offer ABLE locations for residents to access free GED preparation classes. Many locations also offer day and evening classes. The sessions are generally held at local colleges, schools, libraries or recreation centers.

    Library Programs

    • Many libraries offer GED study groups, materials and other guidance to individuals trying to obtain their GED. Call your local library to find out if they offer a free study program. If they don't, they can usually connect you to a local group that does offer programming.
