Ohio GED Requirements

If you didn't finish high school, the General Educational Development exam is one way you can earn a high school diploma. The GED exam is a national, standardized test based on the 12th-grade curriculum. Subject areas include science, reading, math, writing and social studies. While the test is national, states have certain requirements you must meet. Contact a GED testing site for more information or if you need classes to prepare for the exam.
  1. Age

    • The minimum age for taking the GED test in Ohio is 19. You can take the test if you're between 16 and 18 if your school superintendant signs an age waiver form.

    Identification

    • You must show a valid identification, e.g., a drivers license or passport. Non-residents can take the GED test in Ohio as long as they provide identification.

    Application

    • You must fill out a GED application and pay a $40 fee. Apply online or at a GED testing center. If approved, the center will not contact you. You must contact the center.

    Registration

    • You must register with the testing center where you want to take your exam. Look at the list of testing centers online and choose the one most convenient for you.
