There is a fee for taking the text. The initial application fee in Ohio is $40 in 2010. Fees cannot be refunded.
The GED includes questions in five subject areas: science, language arts/reading, language arts/writing, mathematics and social studies. All questions on the test are geared towards a general knowledge of curriculum in a 12-grade system. Most of the questions are multiple-choice, but test-takers are required to write an essay for the language arts/writing portion of the test. Total test time is eight hours, with the testing either taking place in one day or broken down into two four-hour test days.
In order to obtain your GED, you must score a minimum of 410 points in each one of the five subject areas. The total of these five scores must equal 2250 points or more. You must score MORE than 410 points in at least one of the subject areas to equal a minimum of 2250 points. It takes approximately two weeks to receive test results.
Each county in Ohio has a place for GED testing. Check with the Ohio Department of Education for the testing center in your county.
