Colorado GED Requirements

The General Education Development test, or the GED, is a test which allows a person the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency diploma. The test is administered by each state's education department. As a result, requirements and scoring structures vary from state to state. The test does, however, always consist of the same five sections: mathematics, science, social studies, writing and reading.
  1. Age

    • In Colorado, to be eligible to take the GED test you must be at least 17 years old.

    Identification

    • You must be able to provide valid identification at the time of your testing day. Acceptable forms of identification include a Colorado driver's license, military ID, passport or a Colorado-issued photo ID.

    Eligibility

    • The Colorado GED program is exclusively for Colorado residents; residency is determined simply by having a Colorado mailing address. No one currently enrolled in an accredited high school is eligible to take the GED. Furthermore, you can not have already graduated from an accredited high school. The GED is designed for those who were not able to attend and/or finish high school for some reason.

    Minimum Passing Score

    • According to the Colorado Department of Education, to pass the GED a person must score "at least 410 on each of the five tests with an average score of 450 (or 2,250 total points) on all five tests." Retests are available for individual parts of the test if those scoring requirements are not met.
