Individuals must meet certain eligibility requirements to be able to sit for the GED in Prince William County. Applicants for the GED must be 18 years of age, or at least 16 years old and not enrolled or required to be enrolled in secondary school under Virginia state law. Potential test takers must also be U.S. or Canadian citizens.
Prince William County public schools do not require test takers to reside in a given geographical area to register for the GED. However, candidates must present themselves in person at the Adult Learning Center in Manassas, Virginia to register for the exam. The test is also conducted in person at the Adult Learning Center. The test takes approximately seven hours to complete.
Registrants are required to complete and sign the GED Testing Candidate Code of Conduct contract. Candidates are required to comply with certain standards of conduct regarding materials permitted in the testing room, discussing test questions and leaving the testing classroom. Individuals can take the GED exam up to three times per year.
Candidates must successfully complete all five tests of the GED. The five sections test a candidate's skills in mathematics, writing, reading, social studies and science. GED practice tests are available for students to be able to prepare for the tests. Many local libraries also have preparatory books and materials. The tests require candidates to prove equivalent ability to evaluate, analyze and understand information and concepts at the same level as a high school graduate.
