Verify your eligibility to pursue the GED program. You must be at least 17 years old and not required to attend school under the Mississippi compulsory attendance law. A driver's license, birth certificate or Mississippi state-ID card can be used to provide proof of age. You must also be a Mississippi resident and not presently enrolled in any public, private or homeschool program.
Obtain the required documents. 17 year old applicants must provide withdrawal verification documentation from their previous school and submit any other academic records upon request.
Go to the Mississippi GED Online application agreement Web page and read through the online applicant requirements. To access the application, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the "Application" tab. After submitting your application, you must wait to be contacted by a local adult education center to complete the TABE exam.
Achieve minimum scores on the exam. In addition to writing an essay and signing a release of information document, you must obtain the minimum of an 8th grade reading level to be eligible for online GED course instruction. If you're eligible, a TABE test administrator will send your scores to the online program. If you score below the 8th grade reading level, you must register for or continue on-site GED classes at the Greater Columbus Learning Center (GCLC).
Register for classes at the GCLC. Bring your picture ID and Social Security card to the center. You will be required to complete all paperwork, obtain a class schedule for GED enrollment and complete an evaluation to assess your GED class needs. At the completion of the online or classroom GED program, you will be required to take the GED exam at the GCLC or other designated testing facility.
