Check that the student meets Kentucky age requirements. He must either be 19 years of age, or 16 years of age if he is officially withdrawn from school for at least 90 days, or has received a waiver from the Superintendent of Schools. This waiver is given for students who need a GED for post-secondary education, medical reasons, family reasons or as a condition of employment. This waiver is on the Kentucky GED testing application. If he has withdrawn from school, he needs a proof of withdrawal on a school form or letterhead.
Check if the student is eligible for an age exemption if she does not meet the general age eligibility requirements. If she is at least 16 years old and committed to a correctional facility or juvenile detention facility, in Job Corps, a ward of the state or enrolled in an Kentucky Department of Education (KDE)-approved GED program, she will be exempt from the general age requirement. If she qualifies for an exemption, the signature of the program's administrator or superintendent will be required on the Kentucky GED testing application.
Check if the student is eligible for special test-taking accommodations for a disability. These disabilities can be physical/chronic health, attention-deficit/hyperactivity, learning/cognitive or emotional/mental health. If he has a disability, complete the appropriate form, which can be obtained at a Kentucky Adult Education Center. He must provide documentation of his disability and submit the forms to a GED examiner at the Kentucky Adult Education Center's GED office.
Complete the GED testing application and take it to a Kentucky Adult Education Center. She can obtain this application from adult education providers, school districts, GED testing centers or Kentucky Adult Education Center's GED office.
Complete the GED official practice test. He must pass this test in order for him to take the official GED test. If he fails this test, he will need to study the areas of the test he failed.
Complete a GED training program or self-study GED learning material, if she did not pass the practice test. The Kentucky Adult Education Center offers free classes to prepare for the GED test.
