Contact your local GED testing center. Some centers will require you to take a preliminary test to determine your current skills level. A list of testing centers is available online and by calling (800) 62-MY-GED.
Take the skills-analysis test if required. Enroll in a GED preparation program if recommended, or begin home study. Upon enrolling in a preparation program, fill out paperwork and begin a course of study that is specific to your individual needs. Practice tests for each subject area are available by calling (800) 62-MY-GED.
Register for the test. A fee may be collected at this time, and you will need to present a photo ID in most states. Report any documented learning disabilities if you have them, and you may receive extra time or other accommodations when testing.
Take the test on the appointed day. Be punctual and come with a focused attitude. You will have seven hours and five minutes in which to complete the test.
Receive and review your GED scores. A passing score is 2,250 combined, with a minimum of 410 in each area. If your scores are below passing, register to retake the test.
