How to Get Your Arkansas GED

The GED or General Equivalency Diploma, is an exam for those who did not start or finish high school or did not receive a high school diploma. The test is seven hours long and covers five subjects: math, social studies, writing, science and reading. The test is fairly comprehensive; each section covers all areas of the high school curriculum for that subject. For example, the science sections asks questions about earth science, chemistry, biology and physics. Test-creators score the test on a range from 200 to 800. In order to pass the test, you must receive a minimum score of no less than 410 on any given section of the exam.

      Verify that you meet the requirements in Arkansas to take your GED. You must be at least 16 years old and have never received an Arkansas high school diploma. You must not be currently enrolled in high school. You must be a resident of Arkansas.

      Visit the ace.arkansas.gov/ged or ace.arkansas.gov/AdultEd. These sites will give you a list of testing centers where you can take a practice GED. In order to be eligible to take the actual GED test in Arkansas, you must get an average score of 450 across the five tests, with a minimum score of 410 on each, for a total score of 2250 on the practice GED.

      Contact a testing center near you and arrange to take the practice GED. Based on your score on the practice GED, the experts at the test center will tell you if you are ready to take the actual exam, need to do some light studying or need to do intensive preparation.

      Study according to the schedule and curriculum that the professionals at the GED testing center set out for you.

      Arrange to take the GED exam. On the day of the test, bring a form of national or foreign identification, such as a driver's license, passport or military ID. Your test results will be mailed to your home address.
