How to Get Your GED in Seattle

The General Education Development (GED) Test is available to Washington State residents who have not received a high school diploma and are at least 16 years old. You cannot be presently enrolled in an accredited high school. If between 16 and 18 years of age, you will have to get a permission form signed from the school district in which you live. Once successful completed, your GED can be used to gain entrance into colleges or used to apply for employment with employers who require a high school education.

      Study for your GED test before you take it. Your local library has GED preparation guides. Go online to access practice tests. South Seattle Community College offers GED preparation classes.

      Submit your signed permission form, if necessary, pay the testing fee of $75 and attend orientation. Orientation is mandatory and begins at 8 a.m. at Seattle Central. Testing begins at 9 a.m. You do not need an appointment.

      Complete all five tests to receive a total score. If you fail any subject, you may retake that test and your highest score will be used to figure your new score. You may take individual tests up to three times per calendar year, but you must take the entire GED test before you will be allowed to retake any of the individual tests.
