Find a CLEP test center. Before you even think about training as a proctor, you will want to be sure there is testing center near you. You can ask high school students, teachers, friends or neighbors who are familiar with AP testing if they know of a site. You can also contact high schools and colleges in the area to locate a testing site.
Contact a CLEP administrator. Every test center will have at least one CLEP administrator. She is responsible for every aspect of administering the AP tests at her site. Proctor training is one of her responsibilities. She will be able to tell you when and how you can receive training.
Attend a CLEP proctor training session. These sessions are scheduled at the discretion of the test site's CLEP administrator. At the training session, you will be given all the information you need to proctor an AP test successfully, including your testing schedule, what to wear and what to bring on test day. If the testing center pays proctors, you will learn your pay rate and pay dates. The training session consists of instruction and a question-and-answer session. The trainer will also distribute materials for you to review before test day.
Proctor AP test(s). When test day rolls around, you will prep the room, greet and seat students, and read them a standardized script about how the test will be administered. In addition, you will have to do your best to ensure that no cheating takes place during the test. You will also time the test and collect the test materials when testing is completed.
