Bevill State Community College is located in five cities across Alabama. The Jasper, Alabama campus is a 45-minute drive from downtown Birmingham and offers a 12-week Certified Nursing Assistant certificate program. This program consists of theoretical and practical coursework that prepares students for entry-level work as a CNA in a medical facility. To apply, you must submit the general application and all supporting documentation, such as high school transcripts, college transcripts (if transferring) and COMPASS placement test scores. Applicants must also pass a background check, urine drug test and a physical assessment. As of 2010, the tuition for residents is $104 per credit hour. Non-resident students must pay $208 per credit hour. Financial aid and scholarships are available for all students.

Lawson State Community College is located in Birmingham, Alabama (with a satellite campus in Bessemer, Alabama). It offers students a Certified Nursing Assistant program, which is accredited by the Alabama Board of Nursing as well as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. This certificate program lasts nine semester hours and prepares students for entry-level work as a CNA under the supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse or a physician. Students are enrolled in three main courses: CPR/Basic First Aid (2 credit hours), Fundamentals of Long-Term Care Clinicals (2 credit hours) and Fundamentals of Long-Term Care (5 credit hours). Upon completing this certificate program, students are eligible to take the State nursing Assistant Certification examination. Applicants in this program must have successfully passed a Psychology 100 course and the WorkKeys pre-assessment test administered by Lawson State Community College. As of 2010, the total tuition for this program is $114per semester hour for in-state students. Non-resident students must pay $228 per semester hour.

Gadsden State Community College is located in Gadsden, Alabama, which is a 45 minute drive from Birmingham. This community college offers students a two-semester (25 credit hour) Certified Nursing Assistant certification program. Students enrolled in this short-certification program are taught foundational principles for nursing assistants to enter the workforce in a medical facility. To apply, students must take the COMPASS admissions test and score 76 or higher. Applicants must also hold a high school diploma, or GED, and pass a background check. Graduates of this program are able to take the State Nursing Assistant Certification examination and those with a GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible for placement in the License Practical Nursing program. As of 2010, the tuition for resident-students is $104 per credit hour. Non-resident students must pay $189 per credit hour.
