Online Certified Nursing Assistant Programs

Becoming a certified nursing assistant can open the door to many career paths and opportunities in healthcare. For various reasons, some people find that completing their CNA training in a traditional classroom setting to be an obstacle. Fortunately, there are many programs available designed to provide the majority of the required training for a CNA online, although onsite practicums and clinicals, as well as passing the CNA Certification Test, are still a requirement for obtaining a CNA certification.
  1. CNA Training Programs

    • Before taking the state certification exam to become a CNA, you must successfully complete 75 to 125 hours of CNA training, depending on your state. There are many online programs available that allow students to complete the coursework portion of their CAN training online. Online CNA training programs are available at University of Phoenix, Western Governors University, Baker College and South University, among others.

    Continuing Education

    • After completing the required CNA training and successfully passing the state certification exam, many CNAs elect to take continuing education courses, both to expand on their knowledge and further their careers. Since there are no practicums or clinicals involved with this type of training, it's possible to complete all the required coursework via online classes. University of Phoenix, Baker College, Robert Morris University, and Herzing University are just some of the online colleges offering continuing CNA education.

    Clinicals & Practicums

    • If you're interested in completing your CNA coursework via online classes, you'll still have to complete your clinicals and practicums onsite. Ask your online school whether it has referral programs at local hospitals where you can complete your onsite training requirements.
