A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is the term used for a person who assists patients with activities of daily living and provides basic nursing procedures. CNAs work under the supervision of RNs or LPNs.
A CNA is trained in a variety of skills for patient care, including taking vital signs, monitoring patients, assisting with medical procedures, feeding, dressing, showering and bed making. A CNA may work in a variety of health-care facilities, such as hospitals, extended care facilities, clinics and even in-home care.
Before deciding to study online, you need to consider whether you are a better hands-on learner or book learner. Hands-on training and dealing with patients and staff one-on-one are important skills that can't be taught as easily online. Also, certification varies from state to state, so check with your state to make sure it will accept online certification.
When offering an online program, some schools feature streaming videos to help the student get a feel for a hands-on demonstration. Other online programs require you to complete clinicals at a local medical facility before taking the CNA exam. Online courses are available at sites such as CNA Training Course Online, a four-week course with a flexible schedule. Or check with the guidance counselor at a local community college to get advice about choosing the right online school.
There are many benefits to taking an online CNA course, including:
-Flexibility to study at your own pace and finish at your convenience.
-Classes are available 24 hours a day.
-Faculty is always available online should you have any questions.
