Intravenous certification is a state or national certification that provides proof of proficiency in intravenous (IV) therapy. Necessary training for either level of certification is provided by several universities and colleges.
IV certification training involves lectures, hands-on demonstrations and clinical work with a certified teacher. Coursework at some institutions includes IV preparation, safety, and patient care. Some courses also provide introductions in physiology and the necessary math for calculating dosages.
Intravenous therapy certification or equivalent education is required for most advanced EMT positions. It is also a valuable certification for nurses who wish to specialize in oncology, anesthesia or infusions.
