In order to be obtain the AA certification, you must sign up for and successfully complete the certifying exam. The certificate is awarded by the universally recognized National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants, and is accepted by all practicing medical staff and offices.
Even once you have obtained your certification, the process is not complete. To remain current in your field, you must sign up for a certain number of continuing medical education or CME, classes each year that keep you up to date with the newest procedures and technologies available in your field.
Over the years that you are a practicing anesthesiologist assistant ,you will be subject to periodic examinations that continue to test your ability to effectively perform your job. You will be asked to complete paper tests and physical examinations to show that you are successfully performing your role as an AA.
