According to the "Hearing Journal," the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) relies heavily upon audiology assistants to treat and care for veterans. The Academy of Audiology reports that the number of audiologist support personnel increased 619 percent in VA hospitals from 1996 to 2004 while the number of licensed audiologists decreased significantly. The first part of the program is 16 weeks and focuses on the anatomy and physiology of the head and neck areas.
