Medical Assistant Programs in Michigan

Medical assistants work in a doctor's office performing both clinical and administrative tasks like scheduling patient appointments, billing, ordering supplies and record keeping. Clinical duties include checking vital signs, preparing patients for treatment, preparing patient x-rays and counseling patients on proper medication procedures or dietary regimens. Most medical assistant programs require a high school diploma, and the coursework generally takes two years to earn an associate's degree.     Ross Medical Education Center

    • Ross Medical Education Center was established in August 2009 and has locations in Lansing, Saginaw and Grand Rapids, Michigan. The medical assistant program is designed to prepare students for work in physician's offices, hospitals and laboratories. Students must also take part in a practical externship before completing the program. Hands-on training is comprised of courses like laboratory testing, phlebotomy (blood work) and operating electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment.

    Career Quest Learning Center

    • Career Quest Learning Center offers a medical assistant certificate program that prepares students to provide assistance to physicians during medical examinations and perform laboratory, clinical and administrative duties. Courses like medical terminology and anatomy and physiology are designed to give students a strong foundation in the clinical aspects of medical assistance. Students also have the option of taking medical billing and coding courses as well as keyboarding procedures and word processing.

    Dorsey Schools

    • The Dorsey school was founded in 1934 and provides certificate training in medical, culinary arts, business, legal and computer fields. In addition to medical assisting, medical field certificate programs are offered in pharmacy technician, patient care technician, dialysis P.C. technician, administration and billing. Students who complete classroom training in medical assisting will be assigned to a hospital or physician's office to complete an externship and gain practical training. The school also connects graduates with potential employers.
