Grants for Physician Assistant Programs

There are a variety of scholarships and grants available to students looking to pursue a career as a physician assistant. Through both professional organizations as well as private donors, there are numerous financial aid resources that help students manage the rising cost of tuition, while pursuing their true academic interests.
  1. Physician Assistant Foundation Scholarship

    • The Physician Assistant Foundation Scholarship program is one outlet for students looking to tap into additional resources to fund schooling. Established in 1977, the scholarship seeks to support students who are interested in pursuing a career within the physician assistant field. In order to apply, students must be a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and be enrolled in the professional phase of their program. Applications can be obtained through the AAPA's national office or online. Awardees are chosen on the basis of financial aid, academic achievement, future career goals and past employment. Scholarships are typically awarded in the amount of $2,000.

    Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants Scholarship Program

    • For first and second year physician assistant students looking for additional funding for education pursuits, the Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants Scholarship Program might be one option. The program offers scholarships in the amount of $1,000 for first-year students and $1,500 for second-year students. Only student members of the AFPPA are eligible for the awards. To apply, students must submit an essay of 750 words or less that explains their experience and future goals within the primary care field. A registration form, submitted by a faculty member, must also be completed in order to be considered. Applications are judged based on the essay and faculty recommendations.

    Asian & Pacific Islander Physician Assistant Caucus

    • The Asian & Pacific Islander Physician Assistant Caucus is one option available to minority PA students looking for financial aid. Two scholarships of $250 are awarded to two student members of the Asian & Pacific Islander Physician Assistant Caucus. One scholarship will be awarded for cultural awareness, while the other will be awarded on the basis of future development. In order to apply, students must complete an application that includes sections about community involvement, personal statements and financial information.
